The original manuscript on six folio pages, written and signed by Leeuwenhoek, is preserved at the Royal Society (MS. 1849. Early Letters L1.20). On the separate cover sheet, which shows a small part of Leeuwenhoek's red wax seal, he wrote, "A Monsieur. / Monsieur. Grubendol. / a. Londres". Oldenburg wrote, "Rec. june 1.76." His English translation is Early Letters L1.21.
