Text of the letter in the original Dutch and in English translation from Alle de Brieven. The Collected Letters at the DBNL - De Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren

The original manuscript on one folio page, written and signed by Leeuwenhoek, is preserved at the Royal Society (MS. 1860. Early Letters L1.32). On the outside, Leeuwenhoek wrote, "My Lord / My Lord William Brouncker / The president of the Royal Society. / London."

Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter to William Brouncker as a cover letter, stating that he sends some observations and a Latin translation. It is probable that this letter accompanied the preceding one, dated 5 October 1677, addressed to Henry Oldenburg. There is, however, also a possibility that the next letter, which bears the date November 1677, was covered by this one.
