Antoni van Leeuwenhoek’s 384th Birthday
On Monday, October 24, 2016, the Google Doodle honored Leeuwenhoek on the occasion of his 384th birthday.
The doodle, by Gerben Steenks, is animated (click screenshot above). The version on Google Doodle's YouTube channel comes with this description:
Google honors Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. He was was a Dutch tradesman, scientist and the first microbiologist. Van Leeuwenhoek was born 1632 in Delft 384 years ago. Inspired by a drop of water, he designed a single-lens microscope. With this he discovered the micro-world (”little animals”). Doodler designer Gerben Steenks shows the Google Logo as “little bacteria chars”. Nice Doodle for a really great inventor - happy birthday Antoni van Leeuwenhoek.
