In this cover letter, Van den Berch tells the Royal Society that Abraham Edens will deliver the cabinet with L.’s microscopes. He adds that Edens hopes to see the “curiosities” at the Royal Society. He also asks that Edens be given a receipt.
Van den Berch’s English was adequate for this task, although his spelling does not distinguish the Dutch -ij from the English -y.
The Royal Society's records of the meeting of 18 November 1723 mentions Van den Berch and this letter.
Van den Berch was the grandson of Leeuwenhoek's maternal uncle Johan Jacobs van den Berch.
