Leeuwenhoek's family members in 1673
Date:
October 24, 1673
To celebrate Leeuwenhoek's 41st birthday, October 24, 1673, if only his close family and their spouses and children had come to the party, these three dozen people would have been there.
His parents and grandparents were dead, as was one brother, three sisters, his uncle Huijch (and his wife), his first wife Barbara, and four of their children. That left thirty-two close relatives:
- Sister Margrieta age 50, married, 3 (of 8) children
- Sister Catarina 36, married, 7 (of 9) children
- Daughter Maria 17
- Wife Cornelia 39
Cousins, children of Uncle Huijch and Aunt Magdaleentgen:
- Lambrecht 49, married, 5 (of 8) children
- Geertruij 45, married
- Maerten 42, married, 5 (of 10) daughters
- Jannitgen 40
- Margaretha 36
Some of the siblings' children and cousins' children had spouses and children of their own. None of them would have had far to travel. Sister Catarina and her family lived in Rotterdam. The rest lived in Delft.
