Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter about …

While looking for honey-dew on the leaves of a lime-tree, L. finds a great many plant-lice. L. distinguishes two kinds, with and without wings. Embryos from plant-lice. Parasitization of plant-lice. Black flies are not born in ditch-water. L. associates black flies on apple-trees with the caterpillars found there. Vain attempts to obtain pupation of the caterpillars. English oysters planted in the neighbourhood of Zierikzee did not contain any young and tasted excellent.
