Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter to answer Sloane's Letter L-369 of 8 June 1700 (28 May 1700 O.S.), which followed Sloane's discussion of a research proposal discussed at the meeting of the Royal Society of 22 May 1700, O.S. (JBO.10.184), Leeuwenhoek says that he has examined the sperm of many animals, but if there is any animal that the Royal Society would like him to investigate, he will do so.
