As noted in Alle de Brieven. The Collected Letters at the DBNL - De Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren, this letter was never published and neither the manuscript nor any copies have survived. It was the last letter he wrote to Robert Hooke, and there is no evidence that Hooke ever replied.

We know about this letter only from Leeuwenhoek's reference to it in Letter L-122 of 22 January 1683, written to Christopher Wren.

In a letter dated the 4th of April 1682 (addressed by me to Mr. Robert Hooke) I have written about the structure of the muscle of the shrimp and the lobster and afterwards I wrote to that gentleman on July 28th 1682 in which latter missive I asked to be informed whether my figures respecting the anatomy of wood, sent to the Royal Society on January 12th 1680, will be published in print, as Mr. Hooke at one time wrote to me they would.
