When he joined the Veertigraad in 1695, he was already a manager of the WIC. He served in several City offices, as a magistrate and as treasurer from 1709 to 1714, the same year that Leeuwenhoek addressed Send-Brieven XIII to him.
He registered as a student at Leiden 17 March 1682 and graduated from Harderwijk 7 June 1686.
As a lawyer, he lived in Den Haag in 1687.
He was married in 1687 in the Waalse Kerk and was buried in 1742 in the Nieuwe Kerk.
His son Gerard helped notary Willem van der Lely make the inventory of Maria van Leeuwenhoek's estate in 1745.
