The heart of the Weeskamer (orphans chamber) archive is the more than eleven thousand estate inventories from 1618 to 1811 when Napoleon's reforms changed Dutch law.

The records before 1618 were damaged in the fire in the Stadhuis (city hall) that began the night of March 3 and was not put out until the next day. The Stadhuis had to be almost completely rebuilt. The few documents that did survive are listed in the archives by the date on the document. The documents after 1618 are organized by the date of first registration with the Weeskamer.
